Each month we help a different local Te Aro or Wellington charity by putting a donation box beside our Free BBQ each Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So next time you're in do your good deed for the day and chucking in some gold or whatever to help support your community.
Wellington Multiple Sclerosis Society
The Wellington Multiple Sclerosis Society Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation providing professional support, information and education for people with, and those providing care for people with, Multiple Sclerosis and other allied neurological diseases.
MS Wellington employs three field workers who work closely with people with Multiple Sclerosis, their carer providers and their families.
Since a cure is still far off our principal mission is to maximise their quality of life through information and personal support and to facilitate the provision of all appropriate health and welfare services available.

April 2013, Newtown Breastfeeding support centre
We raised $379.80
The Newtown Breastfeeding Support Centre is a non-profit centre providing expert help with breastfeeding difficulties in a friendly community setting. We offer a weekly drop in centre, where a qualified lactation consultant (IBCLC) offer advice and support with any breastfeeding issues and we also have a GP at the centre. All our services are offered free of charge and we receive no regular funding. March 2013, Cuba Street Clinic

The Sexual Assault Assessment and Treatment Service (SAATS) is the specialist service in Greater Wellington providing forensic examination, support and follow-up services to sexual assault survivors. In 2011, SAATS collaboratively produced a short film to highlight the importance of watching out for your mates while enjoying a night out. The “Who Are You?” short film has been utilised by local and international organisations as a training tool for sexual violence prevention in schools, universities, and even the hospitality industry. February 2013, WGTN Multiple Birth
We raised $634.70
The WMBC provides many services including free antenatal classes and breast feeding support, equipment hire, playgroups for multiples and parenting forums addressing issues significant to raising multiples. The WMBC also provides meals to members after their babies are born: a time when food is important but cooking is not a priority. Additionally the WMBC has a team that works closely with the Wellington Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) offering support to families with babies in NICU. Find out more at www.wmbc.org.nz

Live Below the Line is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that's making a huge difference in the fight against extreme poverty. Quite simply, we’re building a movement of passionate people willing and able to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most. Live Below the Line is challenging individuals and communities to see how much change you can make out of $2.25. By living off just $2.25 per day for food for 5 days, you will be bringing to life the direct experiences of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty and helping to make real change. Think about that figure - 1.4 BILLION - that's over 300 times the population of New Zealand - living every day in extreme poverty. Te Aro School is a vibrant, inclusive, multicultural full primary school with approximately 200 children from over 40 countries and a strong community presence dating back to 1854. We cater for all children from Year 0-8 and provide a very wide and varied curriculum.

June 2012, WGN Rape Crisis
We raised $935.90
Wellington Rape Crisis was established in 1977 by a small group of women who identified, and responded to, a community need by creating a support network for women survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Today the centre is a fully Incorporated Society called Wellington Rape Crisis (Inc). They offer support and information over the phone, by email, and in person to survivors of rape and sexual abuse and to their families friends and whanau. This includes people who are supporting a survivor or who are affected by the rape or sexual abuse of someone they know. No appointments are necessary. All their services are free. Our drop-in support hours are 9.30am-4pm Monday to Friday. Head to their website here for more information.

When you call 111 for an ambulance in our region, it’s Wellington Free Ambulance that responds to that call, and at no cost to the patient.Where would we be without Wellington Free? Wellington free Ambulance costs $21,000,000 per year and is only partly government funded. Please donate to our emergency appeal that ensure Wellingtonians have access to world class level of paramedic care when they need it, fast and free of charge. April 2012, WGN Riding for the Disabled

Wellington RDA is based on the Keneperu Hospital Grounds in Porirua. We operate 5 days a week and provide horse riding therapy to individuals and school groups from within the region of Wellington City right through to the Kapiti Coast. Our clients have disabilities ranging from epilepsy, downs syndrome, paralysis, hearing or visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. February/March 2012, WGN SPCA
We raised $302.10
Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals and to prevent cruelty to animals. We do this by rescuing animals in distress, caring for homeless animals, reuniting lost animals with their owners, rehoming orphaned and unwanted animals, running desexing programmes so unwanted animals are not born to a life of suffering, educating children and adults about how to care for animals and prosecuting those who neglect or abuse animals. Our Animal Welfare Inspectors enforce the Animal Welfare Act 1999 and have the power to prosecute people under this Act. They educate people about proper care of their animals. We have a 24-hour animal ambulance service to respond to emergencies where animals are sick or injured. Check out their website here for more info.
January 2012, The Argo Trust

The Argo Trust is a purpose-built home situated in the Aro Valley. We are a provider of disability services to six adults who have profound intellectual and physical disabilities. Argo House is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by a team of full and part time staff. The staff are motivated, energetic and committed to ensuring the residents of the Trust have all opportunities in life available to them - and to have lots of fun and excitement doing it! Each resident has their own unique bedroom and the house works just like a flatting situation. Staff assist and support the resident’s with all daily living activities and personal cares, whilst encouraging independence. Check out their website here for more info.
November 2011, Movember
We raised $127.30
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in New Zealand and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men. Check out their website here for more info.
