Community
We are proud to be a supportive and functioning part of our fantastic local community. We believe that sponsorship is a partnership. It begins with us having a genuine interest to support something happening in the community that we’re a part of. We love working to build relationships with local groups and are happy to put in time to develop ideas and initiatives.
We were chuffed to be nominated for the “Outstanding Local Establishment” at the 2011 Capital Awards, and even more stoked to win! The award was for “a local establishment… the hub of the community and a place where family and friends meet regularly and feel welcome, while still being fed and watered to a high standard. This establishment must fit the ethos of the community where it sits”. We’re all about that
Check out some of the organisations we’ve teamed up with. If you’re doing something cool, let us know! If you can demonstrate that you are contributing to the Wellington or Te Aro community, we’d love to hear more from you.
THE ARGO TRUST
The Argo Trust is a purpose-built house situated in Aro Valley. They are a provider of disability services to six adults who have profound intellectual and physical disabilities. Argo House is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a team of dedicated staff. This crew are motivated, energetic and committed to ensured the residents of the Trust have all opportunities in life available to them – and to have lots of fun doing it. We at The Cross think this is awesome for the Te Aro community and we’re proud to support them – we host their fundraising events, and are always happy to throw the football on the big screen for them when they pop in for coffee! Check them out at www.argo.org.nz.
The Boys and Girls Institute
The BGI is an organisation who we reckon should get recognition for their ongoing commitment to the well-being of our kids and families. Not everyone knows about the great job that they do, so to sum up, the BGI aims to be a vibrant, friendly, youth participatory organisation that is truly bi-cultural and grounded in BGI’s original 1883 vision. Pretty awesome if you ask us! Here at The Cross we host the BGI’s annual meetings, plus provide their hard-working staff with some drinks and nibbles each month. Keep up the good work guys! Check them out at www.bgi.org.nz.
Child Cancer Foundation
This is a not-for-profit organisation that we sponsored during March to help them raise awareness – Adventure Wellington another group we support organized an event to build as many and sandcastles as possible one night in march and put a little CCF flag on each one. The Southern Cross then pledged $1 for each sandcastle that Adventure Wellington could make. The event was a huge success making it into local papers and online. We ended up achieve the goal to help raise awareness for such a great cause, but was also able to donate $500 towards the cause! If you'd like to learn more about the CCF check out their website here - www.childcancer.org.nz.
Emerge Supported Employment Trust
Emerge is a charitable trust and we have been providing supported employment and transition services for over ten years. Many of our clients have achieved the career of their choice with our help. Better still, many are now independent, and no longer require our services.
The trust was set up in 2000 by a group of parents who had concerns as to how their children would get on in the community once they left school.
They wanted their children to have the same opportunities as their classmates; be able to choose their own futures, become confident and independent and be an active part of the community. If you'd like to learn more about Emerge you can check out their website here - www.emergetrust.org.nz.
