Each month we fundraise for a different local Te Aro or Wellington charity, by doing our bit to help them help those in need. So next time you're in, do your good deed for the day and chuck some gold or whatever you can spare in the donation box to help support your community.
Koha Kegs
If you come by on the first Friday of the Month after 5pm, you could also donate by buying a pint from our Koha Keg! Every month, we tap a donated keg of delicious local beer - you guys pay by Koha (donation), and we donate all the money raised to our local Charity of the Month. Pay what you think is Karmically fair for a pint of beer - but just remember, what goes around comes around!

Everybody Eats
Koha Keg: Friday 4th June, 5pm
Everybody Eats is a multi-award-winning charitable dining concept utilising surplus food to create restaurant meals. Customers can pay whatever they like, even nothing, for nutritious, freshly prepared food served by friendly volunteers at shared tables. The project aims to help reduce food waste, food poverty and social isolation in New Zealand. Currently operating in Auckland City, Onehunga, Wellington and Papamoa.

Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ
Koha Keg: Friday 26th March, 5pm
SGCNZ is celebrating its 30th year! Over 122,000 students have participated in its Festivals and 5000+ in their other programmes. SGCNZ is a not-for-profit life skills enhancing organisation through Shakespeare. Developing skills of young people, including collaboration, co-operation, compromise, and at the same time, leadership, self-presentation, self- confidence, self-esteem, time management, project management and performance evaluation are just some of the key skills SGCNZ enhances. SGCNZ relies on $800,000 each year in cash and in-kind to provide its opportunities and activities! Some 5750 participants benefit, and more than 220,000 fill theatres and halls annually to enjoy the performances by our young people from 5 years old to the very mature of all ethnicities and sectors.

Do Some Good
Koha Keg: Friday 5th Feb, 5pm
Do Some Good supports positive change for tamariki at low decile schools providing food to over 2000 kids in 13 schools/kindy’s, and Kohanga Reo’s. They feed all children every day of the school year, regardless of their situation, making sure there is not stigma attached to tamariki accessing food. The aim is to increase to 20 schools in 2021.

Kaibosh Food Rescue
Kaibosh is New Zealand’s first food rescue organisation. We link the food industry with community groups that support people in need ensuring that quality surplus food reaches those who are struggling rather than being needlessly discarded. This benefits both our community and our environment. Kaibosh has three branches in Wellington City, Lower Hutt and Paraparaumu. With the help of a dedicated team of more than 270 volunteers, we rescue and sort food seven days a week. We redistribute up to 40,000kg of quality surplus food each month to charities and community groups that support people in need. This is the equivalent of 114,000 meals provided to those who need it most, as well as a 14,400kg reduction in carbon emissions.

Mountains to Sea Wellington
Mountains to Sea Wellington is a charitable Trust that supports marine and freshwater education, restoration and community science throughout the Wellington region.
Each summer thousands of students and community get to experience their local marine reserve through their unique snorkel programmes. They also spend winter in local water-ways, planting trees, monitoring streams and helping people get connected! Their mission: Inspiring kaitiakitanga (guardianship) for our rivers, harbours and coasts.

SPCA Wellington
This year we supported the SPCA by participating in Garage Project's "Pints for Pooches" - an annual fundraiser where Garage Project donate 8 kegs of beer to 8 of Wellington's most dog-friendly venues, with proceeds from the sales of all kegs going to the Wellington SPCA. Wellington SPCA helps protect approximately 5,000 animals in the Wellington region every year. These are animals who are sick, injured, lost, abused or abandoned.

Community Defibrillator & WFA
Each week, on average, four people suffer a cardiac arrest somewhere in our region, and 26% of these happen in a public space. Where available, using a defibrillator can increase someone’s chances of survival by up to 80%. In 2014, Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant purchased a community defibrillator from WFA, ready to be used in the event of a cardiac emergency in Te Aro. This koha keg will raise money to assist with ongoing operating costs, including replacement battery and pads. Any remaining funds will be donated to Wellington Free Ambulance

Pablos Art Studio & Roar! gallery
Pablos is a creative environment that aims to empower people who have had an experience of mental ill health. ROAR! gallery is a not-for-profit exhibition space that supports artists with limited access to traditional dealer galleries. ROAR! gallery is dedicated to the sale and promotion from Pablos Art Studios. We exhibit art motivated by personal concerns and histories. The work is original, vibrant, fresh, and affordable. Wellington Rape Crisis were established in 1977 by a group of Women responding to a need for a support service for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. PADA works to improve outcomes for families and whanau affected by mental illness related to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood. Their mission is to eliminate the stigma around perinatal mental health in NZ by championing awareness and facilitating best practice in perinatal mental health and wellbeing, ensuring families in need have access to appropriate information and support.

Wellington Night Shelter
The Wellington Night Shelter provides a safe place to sleep, meals, hot showers and support for homeless men in Wellington. They’re open 365 days a year, last year they helped more than 300 men.
The Wellington Night Shelter rely heavily on fundraising in order to provide services. With your help, they can help rebuild the lives of those men in need, by connecting them to health, housing, social and employment agencies.

Outpawed
Outpawed provides shelter for community/stray cats and kittens and aim to spay/neuter, socialise, vaccinate, microchip and find homes for as many of them as possible.
Earlier this year Outpawed celebrated their 3rd birthday, and have successfully re-homed over 1000 cats and kittens.
Fundraising is used to cover Vet fees, vaccinations food and litter to care for these cats and kittens.

Good Bitches Baking

Good Bitches Baking is a network of people who want to show kindness to those in their communities who are having a tough time. We do this by baking them a delicious treat.
There are too many people out there having a tough time: families with children in hospital; those using food banks and soup kitchens; residents in hospice and their loved ones; women and children fleeing domestic violence. We hope to give them just a moment of sweetness in their time of crisis.
People tell us that knowing someone cared enough to make them a treat helped them through the toughest of days.

Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP foundation support survivors of rape & sexual assault in Wellington, Porirua & Kapiti. They support anyone of any gender, age or sexual orientation with a wrap-around service which includes a 24/7 crisis line, social work support & counselling therapies. The impacts of sexual abuse reach far beyond survivors, and that is why they also extend their service to include survivors’ friends & whanau. Unfortunately they have a huge gap in funding each year due to an ever increasing need for services. So please donate generously and help us be there for each and every survivor in our community.

Upper Hutt Animal Rescue Society
We raised $1382.80
UHARS is a charitable organisation, founded in 1967, who take in and care for homeless, stray & unwanted animals, and provide them with a safe haven until they find a good forever home. All cats and kittens received by UHARS are desexed, vaccinated and receive flea & worm treatment before they make their way into adoption or fostering, and they also have a “no kill” policy on all cats & kittens.
UHARS receive no public funding, and at any given time they usually have just under 100 animals in their care, looked after by a team of volunteers.

Aro Valley ESOL

Aro Valley Community Council offer ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) classes free for students who are learning English as a 2nd language. Having an understanding of English language and local culture can help to aid communication, making day to day tasks and life easier, and can make the difference between whether or not someone is able to acquire a job.
They desperately need any funds they can get to pay for a teacher and continue these valuable classes in 2019.

Their organisation dates back to the 1950’s and has always maintained it’s original belief that all children deserve an equal chance at life. Birthright Wellington’s aim is to assist single parent families to engage in living independent, strong and resilient lives. Samaritans Wellington has been at the front-line of suicide prevention in Wellington for over 50 years. They provide a 24/7 helpline offering confidential, non-religious and non-judgmental support to anyone who may be feeling depressed, lonely or suicidal.

The Chelsea Day Care Trust, or Chelsea Club, is a charitable trust. They provide a quality day care programme in a safe and home-like surrounding for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other related neurological disorders. Babies and young children are hard work, and sometimes just getting a meal on the table can feel impossible. Bellyful Wellington South delivers free meals to families with a newborn baby, who don’t have a lot of support nearby. Also to families struggling with illness. In 2017, Bellyful Wellington South delivered over 1000 family meals. They are run entirely by volunteers and rely on fundraising and donations. Cats Protection Wellington

Every year in Wellington, hundreds of cats find themselves homeless. We can help when cats can’t stay with their families, by taking them into our shelter as soon as we have space and keeping them fed, healthy and loved until they find new homes. Our shelter is an airy, comfortable place where cats can choose to relax on big sofas or a sunny deck, or find a quiet hideyhole of their own. Cats at CPW are cared for by dedicated volunteers who take the time to get to know their personalities, likes and dislikes. workerBe Oasis is a society building a network of Wellington urban farms, sharing nutritious food with those that need it. Through regenerative agricultural practices they are connecting communities and creating a zero waste local food system - following permaculture and organic principles.
Their Hospital Rd Oasis provides up to 50% of its produce to needy Wellingtonians through Kaibosh, with the remaining 50% sold to supportive local restaurants.

Wellington Multiple Birth Club

WMBC members and volunteers have been supporting multiple families for more than 30 years. They provide support, education and friendship as families experience the joys and challenges of raising multiples.
They also provide services such as free antenatal classes and breast feeding support, equipment hire, playgroups for multiples and parenting forums addressing issues significant to raising multiples. The WMBC also provides meals to members after their babies are born: a time when food is important but cooking is not a priority. Find out more about them here

With the help of a dedicated team of more than 120 volunteers, Kaibosh rescues and sorts food 7 days a week. They deliver 10,000kg of quality surplus food each month to community groups that support people in need. This is the equivalent of 28,500 meals provided to those who need it most, as well as a 7,785kg reduction in carbon emissions. Kaibosh provides this service at no cost to food donors or community groups.
By bringing together food donors, volunteers and community groups, Kaibosh connects quality surplus food with those who need it most, benefiting both our community and our environment - it's all about Wellingtonians helping Wellingtonians.

Fair Trade City Wellington

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. Due to heaps of City Council, media attention and community support, Wellington officially became the first fair trade city in the Southern Hemisphere in late 2009. For years now we have been part of a burgeoning international fair trade economy, contributing to an ever-growing trade system based on fairness and justice. With far over 100 retailers and many, many supporters, fair trade is lighting up Wellington City, not just in our excellent cafes: But through a myriad of opportunities to buy justice-flavoured bananas, ethically-originated t-shirts, fair trade chocolates and comfortably conscientious cushions.

In April, The Cross hosted a performance of Hamlet in the Garden to help raise funds for SGCNZ on April. The event ended up raising $3333.00, a pretty impressive effort!

Bellyful

Bellyful provides meals for families with newborn babies, and families who are struggling with illness. Their volunteers deliver free home cooked meals to those people in need - particularly those lacking a good support network. They believe that no one needs to go through stressful times alone – and know that having a new baby or a sick family member can make life tough! Having someone pop around with a couple of cooked meals can go a long way toward easing the stress.

Alpha Art Studio

Alpha Art Studio are a group of fun and creative adults with an intellectual disability or sensory impairment. They have an art studio based off Cuba Street in Central Wellington where they practice art, undertake art workshops (scrap-booking, photography, printmaking) and do a range of activities that make life more fun (soccer, drama, dancing). They encourage their personal development (sign language, cooking, literacy and computer classes) – among many other things!

When you dial 111 for an ambulance in Greater Wellington and the Wairarapa, it’s Wellington Free Ambulance that responds. They're always there, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their ambulance and paramedic services are free, because they believe that in an emergency people should get the help they need without a bill at the end.

The Free Store
We raised $432.40
The Free Store daily redistributes perfectly edible surplus food from 40 inner-city cafes, bakeries and restaurants to those in need. In their first year they have redistributed 60,000 items of food that would have been otherwise wasted to, on average, 65 per night. They serve the homeless, unemployed, elderly, sick, refugee and immigrant families, wandering travellers and those struggling with mental health and addiction issues.

Good Bitches Baking

Good Bitches Baking are a collection of keen bakers in Wellington who want to spread a bit of sweetness to people in our community having a tough time. They believe that small things can make a big difference, and a bit of kindness can sometimes help someone through a really bad day. So they deliver baking to places where there are groups of people who need some support - without judging why they are in that situation. Their recipients include boarding houses, homeless trusts, soup kitchens, food banks, hospital wards, hospices, support groups and refuges. And they're not stopping! In the coming months, they’re taking our bitching to the nation, with chapters popping up all around the country.

Mothers Network Wellington Inc. is a small non-profit organisation whose vision is: Valuing Women, Changing Lives. Their aim is to assist women with babies/young children find lasting friendships and on-going peer support. Canteen

Canteen's mission is to support develop and empower young people living with cancer through a national peer support network, and professional educational and recreational programmes. Living with cancer is traumatic at any time, but even more so for young people already facing challenges of identity, independence, education, relationships, intimacy and employment. Since its inception, CanTeen has had a clear focus on the needs of young people living with cancer. CanTeen's foundation was built upon the fundamental belief that young people - through meeting, talking and sharing their experiences - are better able to cope with the uncertainties of living with cancer. UNICEF (Nepal Earthquake Relief)
We raised $443.30
In May we decided to concentrate our efforts on the tragedy that hit Nepal with the devastating earthquake that effected tens of thousands of people. As well as raising $443.30 for UNICEF through our BBQs and raffles, we teamed up with Radio Active and lots of local supporters to bring to you Hands Up For Nepal, a fundraising event with Redbird Jnr hosting, and the likes of Chocolate Box, Aaron Tokona, Dug Trio, Mr Fungus, and 13 other wonderful local acts. We also ran a garage sale and a series of raffles. At this event we managed to raise another $6,279.40 so thanks to everyone who came along and helped out, and congrats to all our raffle winners who won a whole lot of amazing prizes from local sponsors.

Everybody Cool lives here
We raised $353.60
Everybody Cool Lives Here like to play with fellow practitioners and community groups to create work that share New Zealand stories. We aim to present accessible work that will immerse audiences in theatrical magic, with the aim to challenge perceptions, encourage engagement and ultimately entertain. Wake Up Tomorrow is a production where intellectually disabled youth from Active are given the opportunity to work alongside professional Wellington Theatre Practitioners. Through this collaboration they will find their creative voice and the freedom to create and perform in a professional theatre production.

The Soup Kitchen
We raised $671.50
The money Southern Cross has raised will be put towards enhancing our guests quality of life. Half will be put aside for guests expenses. In the past, this has funded learning opportunities like a barista course for guests who wanted to further their skills. The other half of the money will go to our community garden at Mokai Kainga in Owhiro Bay. Guests accompany kitchen staff up to the gardens one day a week to plant and harvest fresh produce which contributes to Soup Kitchen meals. The garden offers a space to learn and socialise in a relaxed environment while giving back to the Kitchen.

Cat Protection League

The Wellington Cats Protection League is run by cat-loving volunteers and relies on fundraising and donations to look after the displaced or unwanted cats that come into their care. From their purpose-built shelter in Kingston, CPL finds loving new homes for (on average) 150 cats each year! Every cat which comes to CPL stays with them for as long as it takes to find the cat a home it will thrive in. CPL also promotes responsible ownership and subsidises the cost of desexing cats for people on low incomes eligible for their desexing programme. Check out their website here.

Bellyful provides meals for families with newborn babies, and families who are struggling with illness. Their volunteers deliver free home cooked meals to those people in need - particularly those lacking a good support network. They believe that no one needs to go through stressful times alone – and know that having a new baby or a sick family member can make life tough! Having someone pop around with a couple of cooked meals can go a long way toward easing the stress. Check out their website here.

We are a group of fun and creative adults with an intellectual disability or sensory impairment. We have an art studio based off Cuba Street in Central Wellington. We practice our art, undertake art workshops (scrap-booking, photography, printmaking).We do a range of activities that make life more fun (soccer, drama, dancing) and encourage our personal development (sign language, cooking, literacy and computer classes) – among many other things! Wellington Rape Crisis was established in 1977 by a small group of women who identified, and responded to, a community need by creating a support network for women survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Today the centre is a fully Incorporated Society called Wellington Rape Crisis (Inc). They offer support and information over the phone, by email, and in person to survivors of rape and sexual abuse and to their families friends and whanau. This includes people who are supporting a survivor or who are affected by the rape or sexual abuse of someone they know. No appointments are necessary. All their services are free. The Sexual Assault Assessment and Treatment Service (SAATS) is the specialist service in Greater Wellington providing forensic examination, support and follow-up services to sexual assault survivors. In 2011, SAATS collaboratively produced a short film to highlight the importance of watching out for your mates while enjoying a night out. The “Who Are You?” short film has been utilised by local and international organisations as a training tool for sexual violence prevention in schools, universities, and even the hospitality industry. The WMBC provides many services including free antenatal classes and breast feeding support, equipment hire, playgroups for multiples and parenting forums addressing issues significant to raising multiples. Wellington RDA is based on the Keneperu Hospital Grounds in Porirua. We operate 5 days a week and provide horse riding therapy to individuals and school groups from within the region of Wellington City right through to the Kapiti Coast. Our clients have disabilities ranging from epilepsy, downs syndrome, paralysis, hearing or visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals and to prevent cruelty to animals. We do this by rescuing animals in distress, caring for homeless animals, reuniting lost animals with their owners, rehoming orphaned and unwanted animals, running desexing programmes so unwanted animals are not born to a life of suffering, educating children and adults about how to care for animals and prosecuting those who neglect or abuse animals. Our Animal Welfare Inspectors enforce the Animal Welfare Act 1999 and have the power to prosecute people under this Act. They educate people about proper care of their animals.
